Week 1 College Football Picks

Every week I’m going to give you guys my favorite 5 picks for the upcoming college football slate. Without further ado

  1. Texas A&M -3 UCLA

UCLA rolls into this game a 3-point underdog despite having possibly the best QB in the nation in Josh Rosen, and that alone should peak your interest. I love the Aggies in this one for a very simple reason, pressure. UCLA is going to be breaking in 3 new OL starters on the road in a hostile environment, which in itself is enough of a problem, but then you factor in Texas A&M returns Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall? Yikes. I like A&M to hound Rosen all night and keep this one fairly low scoring, allowing for Trevor Knight to do just enough to pull out the 3-point win.

  1. USC vs. Alabama UNDER 54

Don’t understand this line at all. Alabama is running out a straight up nasty defense led by Jonathan Allen and Tim Williams, and USC is starting a first time QB. That right their spells doom. Sure, the Trojans return 9 starters, but none of those 9 are any better than the Alabama player across the line (JuJu Smith would probably put up a nice argument). I just can’t see USC throwing up anything more than maybe 17 points. Which means Alabama has to score 37; with an unknown unproven starter at QB, no more Derrick Henry, and some new lineman. OJ Howard and Calvin Ridley should give you 14-21 points on their own, but do you really think they get near 37? This game is going to end up so far under, I would honestly cap it at like 48. I’m loving this under.

  1. LSU vs. Wisconsin UNDER 44.5

Don’t get this one either. Here is what we know about LSU: Brandon Harris stinks, and playing at Lambeau field vs. an always competent Wisconsin defense is going to be a personal disaster. Expect Wisconsin to load up against #7 in Purple all night and hold him to a mere 150-200 yards and 2 TD’s. So that’s like 21-24 points for LSU. Which means Wisconsin has to score about 20 points on their own vs. an LSU defense returning 9 starters led by their former DC. Did I mention Wisconsin was breaking in a new QB and returns only 6 offensive starters? They might not even score 10. Once again, this game is going to end up so far under.

  1. Ohio State -27.5 Bowling Green

Everyone keeps talking about how OSU returns a paltry 6 starters and what not but this team is still LOADED and returns the all important starter, QB J.T Barrett. Bowling Green returns 6 defensive starters but is still Bowling Green. I expect Urban Meyer to come out guns blazing after last years disappointing finish and run up the score big time in this one. Give me 6 total TD’s for J.T and a 40-point win for the Buckeyes.

  1. Florida State -4 Ole Miss

This is mostly a bet based on my feeling towards both these teams this year. I personally love FSU this year (put a few units on their National Championship future) and think they are destined for a huge year. Conversely, I think Ole Miss is getting way too much love simply because they return Chad Kelly, who is a nice QB by all means but isn’t a Deshaun Watson type difference maker and loses Laquan Treadwell this season. Give me FSU by 2 TD’s on Monday night as Dalvin Cook runs wild and FSU’s dominant defense (seriously, this group is awesome) holds Swag Kelly and Ole Miss to under 20 points. 28-14 Seminoles.
