Despite their losses on Tuesday and Friday, the Blackhawks have been doing well. They had won four straight until last Friday when they dropped their game in OT against the Capitals. However, taking 11 out of 14 possible points is not bad at all. The Hawks defense was lacking in their last game against the Jets, being shut out 4-0. They just couldn’t seem to get anything started.
Out of the last 7 games, 4 have gone to OT, where the Blackhawks seem to have the upperhand since they took 3 of them. Like the past seasons, the Hawks seem to come up strong whenever the pressure is on them to perform in the later periods.
Patrick Kane leads the team in points with 18 with Anisimov and Panarin close behind with 17 and 16. Artem Anisimov leads the Hawks in GWG with 3. Of course, we can’t forget that Marian Hossa is leading Chicago in goals with 9, followed by Anisimov with 8. The expected goal scorers are leading the team in goals, no surprise there. However, there are a few surprises. Duncan Keith has yet to score a goal this season, despite tallying 12 points. Jonathan Toews, who led the team with 5 OTGs last season, hasn’t had an OTG yet this season even with the 4 recent games that have gone to OT. But, knowing Toews, I’m sure we can be expecting a few in the future.
One thing I wanted to mention, point out, and have you consider is the Hawks goaltender situation. I’m not saying Crawford’s bad, obviously seeing as he has 2 Stanley Cups to negate that opinion, but I think that he and Darling should be splitting a little more time. Darling has had 3 starts and put up 3 wins. While his GAA may be slightly higher than Crow’s, the Hawks come out strong with him in net and he has made some phenomenal saves this season. Crow is a great goaltender, no question, but so is Darling. I don’t want less Crow, just more Darling. And more Cowbell.
The Blackhawks will be taking on the Flames tonight in Calgary. The Hawks have been playing well, with a record of 11-4-2. Calgary is going to have to step up big tonight as they haven’t been much to watch this season, winning only 7 games out of 18. After two days off, the Hawks should come out strong tonight after a quick rest.
